The News Feed in Facebook is the central hub of any and all activity from your friends and pages you’ve liked in the world’s largest social network. The company regularly receives feedback from its billion-plus users on how it can go about improving News Feed. Facebook has made an announcement which is likely going to be appreciated by its users. The social network has said that it will reduce the visibility of promotional Page posts in News Feeds from next year.

Facebook found out that its users weren’t too happy about the amount of promotional Page posts they saw in their News Feeds. These also include paid posts from the Pages that these users like. While Facebook has controls over the number of ads a user sees and the quality of those ads, no such mechanism existed till now for paid posts by Pages.

The survey revealed that most users believe posts that push them to buy a product or install an app, enter a sweepstakes or promotion and reuse exact same content from ads were too promotional for what should have been an organic post.

So starting January 2015 Facebook users will begin to see less of this type of posts in their News Feeds. The social network does point out that this doesn’t mean users will see a greater number of ads. The idea behind this move is to increase relevance and quality of overall stories, not push more ads in the users’ News Feeds.
