Google’s Nexus devices are usually the first to receive a major software update. After that the next in line are Google Play Edition devices. Even though the roll out of Android 5.0 Lollipop has been shaken up a bit the GPE models are certainly on track to receive the latest update. HTC had previously said that the HTC One (M7) and (M8) GPE will get the Lollipop update soon, and now it is providing us with a timeframe, saying that users should expect the update to drop by next week.

This timeframe was provided by HTC’s @moversi, who is the VP of product management at the Taiwan-based manufacturer. He was asked to provide a timeframe for GPE on Twitter to which @moversi replied “Target is early next week.”

Unfortunately he didn’t make it clear if this is only meant for the HTC One (M8) Google Play Edition or the HTC One (M7) Google Play Edition, or both. I’m going to go ahead and cross my fingers, and hope that early next week the Lollipop update is released for both GPE models.

We should know for sure the situation of the update come next week. If there are no major issues with the update, expect the release to take place according to plan.
