Spider Dress With Retractable Legs Keeps People Out Of Your Personal Space

We all have our own personal spaces that we’d rather not have people intrude upon, but yet there are some who are extremely insistent or who just lack social awareness. Well if you find yourself with that kind of problem, then Anouk Wipprecht’s Spider Dress might be of great interest to you.

The dress was actually conceived back in 2013 but it has since undergone a huge update thanks to the use of 3D printing. This allowed Wipprecht to create an alien-like bodice that seems to mesh pretty well with the spider legs on the shoulders of the dress, thus creating a an alien look to it.

The spider legs are connected to a proximity sensor courtesy of Intel’s Edison chip. The sensors will be able to detect the wearer’s respiration heightening as well as the proximity of another person, and when it does, the legs will react. Granted it won’t exactly “defend” you from any advances, it’s still a pretty cool effect nonetheless.

We doubt that the Spider Dress will be going on sale anytime soon as it seems to be more of a working example of wearable technology and the use of Intel’s Edison chipset. However Wipprecht will be displaying the Spider Dress at CES 2015, so it’s definitely worth checking out if you’re going to be in attendance. In the meantime you can check out the video above to see the dress in action.
