Microsoft Rumored To Launch Phone/Laptop Hybrid Device

htcomni_mockupWe have heard of laptop/tablet hybrids. In fact in the past year or so we’ve seen many such devices released into the market, and to a certain extent it makes sense. The tablet portion is for when you don’t need a physical keyboard and just want to surf the web, and the keyboard comes into play when you need to start typing up documents.

However it seems that there are now talks that Microsoft is working on a phone-laptop hybrid, and to be honest we have no idea what that might be like. This comes from The Information who wrote in their report, “Microsoft also plans to introduce new hardware, with some set to appear this week and a phone-laptop hybrid that might appeal to enterprise customers being developed for further in the future.”

Unfortunately apart from dropping that hint, it is unclear as to what the actual hardware could look like. Like we said, a laptop/tablet hybrid is basically a laptop with a display that can either be swiveled around or removed and act as a touchscreen display, much like a tablet. However a phone/laptop hybrid would be something new entirely.

Unless of course they’re talking about devices that can be flipped open and have a small but physical keyboard, but yet have the computing power of a laptop and have it run on Windows 10. If you’re wondering what that might look like, it could resemble the device pictured above, although we can’t be sure until Microsoft actually reveals it. In any case it would be an interesting direction to take, but what say you?
