oneplus-01Recently OnePlus’ Global Director and co-founder Carl Pei put down the rumors that OnePlus is working on a tablet. Pei also mentioned that the OnePlus Two would be a handset that would surprise people, and here’s another surprise from the company. Speaking to PC World, Pei revealed that the company was working on not just one, but two smartphones.

One of the phones would be the upcoming OnePlus Two, the successor to the OnePlus One from last year, and the other would be a handset that might favor design over specs, at least according to Pei. “I think its going to be a phone catering to a different type of audience. Perhaps for those who appreciate design over specs.”

It is unclear what this implies – could we be looking at a low-end phone where the priority is given to its design, perhaps a premium/luxury phone like we’ve seen in the past where design is the focus and where the specs are more of an after thought? In any case it is certainly intriguing, although to be fair the OnePlus One’s design wasn’t too shabby to begin with.

No word on when this particular device from OnePlus will be launched, but the OnePlus Two is currently aimed for a Q2 or Q3 2015 launch, so perhaps this other handset could possibly be launched alongside it. In the meantime what do you guys think? Would you rather a great looking handset with OK specs, or would you rather have function over form?
