The new Borderlands was not announced at PAX last month but it is known that the game is under development. Gearbox Software, the developer, recently announced a recruitment drive that will bring on new talent to work on this title. It hasn’t said what the next Borderlands game will be called but has revealed another bit of information. The new game will only be for next-generation consoles.

This means that PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 owners are out of luck. They will have to move up to a next-generation console if they want to play the next Borderlands game.

During the company’s financial report 2K president Karl Slatoff said that they can confirm 2K and Gearbox Software will be developing an all-new Borderlands game built “specifically for next-gen consoles.”

Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford has already described this game as “the big one,” its not surprising that they’re only opting for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, as both consoles are exponentially more powerful as compared to their predecessors.

There is no information about the storyline of the new Borderlands game available as yet and no expected release timeframe has been provided.

Fans of the franchise will probably have to wait for quite some time for it to arrive. Till then they can continue to take advantage of all the new content that’s coming to Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.
