borderlandsIf you’ve enjoyed Gearbox’s Borderlands titles, you will be pleased to learn that at PAX East, the developer has confirmed that their next title will be Borderlands 3, or rather to be more specific, they have confirmed that they will be developing their third Borderlands title (with Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel developed by 2K).

However whether or not they decide to call it Borderlands 3 is a different story. According to Gearbox’s CEO Randy Pitchford, “It’s no secret, obviously there’s going to be another Borderlands. We don’t even know if we’re going to call it that. We could call it Borderlands 4 for all we know.”

Now the Borderlands franchise is a much beloved one and back in 2012, there were rumors that the third title was in the works, a rumor that Gearbox quickly moved to squash. The company then explained in 2014 why they weren’t working on a third Borderlands game yet, claiming that they had no idea what the game would be about, even though they knew that a third game would make sense.

In any case we guess fans of the franchise should be pretty pleased with this piece of news, although this is just an announcement and a possible release date and story is still pretty much anyone’s guess.
