Use Of Electric Vehicles Can Help Make Cities Cooler

musk-coast-to-coast-teslaAs we become more environmentally-conscious, we start to look at ways we can help reduce our consumption of natural resources, and one of the ways to go about that is through the use of electric vehicles which will reduce CO2 emissions and cut back on the use of fossil fuels. However if there is another positive side-effect to electric vehicles is that they have a “cool” factor attached to them.

By “cool” we don’t mean that society will look upon you favorably, but rather “cool” as in temperature-wise. According to researchers, it has been discovered that the use of electric vehicles can help reduce the amount of heat in urban areas. This is because during traffic jams, electric vehicles don’t produce as much heat, thus ultimately helping to contribute to a cooler climate within urban areas.

This can also reduce the need for cities to rely on air-conditioning to keep themselves cool. For example it has been found that in Beijing, the increased use of electric vehicles has seen a reduction of 11,779 tons of air-conditioning related carbon dioxide emissions per day, and 14.4kW of matching electricity use.

That being it will still probably take some time before we start seeing a greater adoption of electric vehicles, but with companies like Tesla who are doing a good job at making electric vehicles seem cool and powerful, and are working to help reduce range anxiety, perhaps widespread adoption might not be too far off.
