Now if the rumors are true, it seems that Huawei is interested in creating their own platform as well dubbed Kiris OS, which is also the same name as its in-house chipsets. Not much is known about Kirin OS at the moment except that apparently it has been in the works for the past three years, so this is definitely something Huawei has been considering for quite a while now.
The goal is apparently to allow the company more flexibility when it comes to controlling its own operating system as opposed to having to rely on Google all the time for updates, changes, and new features. Whether or not this is an OS built from the ground up or if it will follow in the footsteps of OxygenOS and CyanogenMod where it is based on Android remains to be seen.
That being said Huawei will definitely face a fair bit of competition so hopefully whatever OS it is that they’re working on will prove to be sufficient enough to make customers want to keep using it.
