OnePlus One Touchscreen Fix Leads To Battery Drain

oneplus-01A couple of weeks ago we reported that there was an issue with the OnePlus One’s touchscreen display. OnePlus then made a statement claiming that they would be working with Synaptics, the company behind the handset’s touchscreen technology, to come up with a fix for the problem.

The good news is that they did and the fix appeared to work according to users who downloaded the CM12.1 nightly that was released for the phone. One user was quoted as saying, “Today’s build totally fixed all my touch problems. This phone feels new. No more ghost swipes, works hot or cold, typing messages doesn’t take forever and a day. I’m blown away.”

Seems like good news, doesn’t it? Unfortunately it also seems that in the process, the CM12.1 nightly that was released had a side effect and that was it started to drain the handset’s battery in a very noticeable way, leading users to complain about the problem and also lead to Cyanogen having to revert the firmware.

XDA developer tiny4579 posted, “Initial testing indicates it might be the touchscreen firmware itself causing the initial drain. More testing is needed to be certain, but I tried this and was still seeing the increased drain, even on the previous nightly and firmware with the new touchscreen drivers.”

However we should point out that this is based on the nightly build which means that there is a chance that there might be some bugs. Thankfully the update was not pushed out to the masses just yet, only those who were interested in taking the nightly for a spin. Hopefully the issue will be fixed in a timely manner before being rolled out to everyone else.
