US BlackBerry 10 Phones Getting Access To Amazon Appstore

amazon_appstoreIt’s something of a vicious circle where developers won’t want to develop for platforms that lack a large user base, and users avoid platforms that don’t have enough apps on them. Like we said this is a vicious cycle and one that BlackBerry is unfortunate to be part of. However it seems that they might have gotten a temporary boost in their ecosystem.

In an update on the Inside BlackBerry blog, the Canadian company has announced that BlackBerry 10 phones in the US will finally be getting access to the Amazon Appstore. This is with the BlackBerry OS 10.3.2 update that is making its way across the various BlackBerry 10 phones on carriers in the US, and it is expected to rollout to all users in the next few weeks.

According to BlackBerry, aside from the access to the Amazon Appstore, “With this update, all U.S. BlackBerry users will get to enjoy a fresh look, improved features, even stronger security and anti-theft protection (BlackBerry Protect!), and access to the Amazon Appstore, with hundreds of thousands of Android apps. More power, more privacy, and even more productivity.”

If you might recall this was a feature announced a while ago and earlier this year, BlackBerry users in the African, Asia Pacific, Europe, and Middle Eastern markets got the update that gave them access, so if you wanted more Android apps for your phone, you can look forward to another official source you can add to your list.
