2016 Toyota Prius Unveiled

Toyota had confirmed last month that it will unveil the 2016 Toyota Prius this month, it has done precisely that at an event in Las Vegas today. The new Prius comes with a major design change which Toyota refers to as a “striking exterior design” that’s “easy on the eyes,” though judging by the reactions online it appears that quite a few people find fault with the way the new Prius looks.

The company says that its new Prius is a “sibling” to the Mirai, its hydrogen powered car, which touts a design that tries to evoke “the flowing shape of a droplet of water to express the vehicle’s characteristic of drawing in air and emitting water.” Toyota appears to be going for a similar look with both vehicles.

The new car is 2.4 inches longer, 0.6 inches wider and 0.8 inches lower than the outgoing third-generation Prius. Toyota promises improved driving experience since the car is based on its New Global Architecture platform which combines a lower center of gravity with a new much more responsive suspension to “dial up the driving excitement.”

All of that is good enough but the company is going to make us wait for the important bits of information, it has not yet revealed details of the powertrain or talked about the car’s fuel economy which is the what compels most people to buy a Prius in the first place.
