It’s safe to say that Toyota played a major part in popularizing hybrid cars in the global car market with the Prius, this particular hybrid is one of the most popular cars of its kind available in the market. The Prius has largely remained the same since a major revamp back in 2009 so it’s about time that a next generation model was unveiled, and Toyota has confirmed that it will do that in September.

Toyota has confirmed today that the fourth generation Prius is going to be unveiled next month at a global media introduction event in Las Vegas, the event will take place on September 8th. The new car will replace the existing XW30 platform that hasn’t been changed much since 2009.

Details are thin about the changes that Toyota has made to its flagship hybrid car, however it’s expected that the new Prius will have a similar shape to the existing model. The new car may also be lighter and more efficient than the XW30 platform and may offer better mileage than the current car’s 50 MPG in city/highway combined driving.

Toyota hasn’t provided any fuel efficiency figures yet but it’s likely to talk about that during the event since that’s one of the major seling points of this car, pricing and availability information will also be revealed at the event next month.
