Amazon is providing a new way for you to earn money on the side if you like driving around town and dropping off packages. The company today announced a new program called Amazon Flex and it allows the average American to work in two, four or eight hour blocks on whatever day they feel like. All they have to do is drive around and deliver packages that Amazon customers are expecting.

It had been reported recently that the company could be launching such a program in the near future, it’s effectively taking the Uber approach with package delivery, instead of driving people around you will drive packages to their intended destinations.

Amazon Flex has only been launched in Seattle, drivers willing to take part must have their own car and Android phone and should pass a background check before Amazon starts sending work their way. Drivers are promised about $18-$25 per hour and they can choose to work in two, four or eight hour blocks, they can even set availability to work up to twelve hours on a later date.

This will allow the company to speed up package deliveries in cities where Amazon Flex will be operational while also letting the average joe make some good money on the side. Amazon Flex will be expanded to Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Chicago, Dallas, Indianapolis, Miami, New York, and Portland soon.
