As the creator of some of the most widely used third-party ROMs for Android devices you can be sure that many users were anxiously waiting to find out when Cyanogen was going to start working on Marshmallow builds. The company confirmed today that work on CyanogenMod Marshmallow mods has already begun, the ROMs will be based on the latest iteration of Android and will feature many of the software improvements and enhancements that CyanogenMod users have come to know and love.

Third-party ROMs are a great alternative for people who can’t wait for official updates to arrive for their device, or those who just want an alternative software experience without having to deal with all the fluff and bloatware OEMs often install on their custom Android skins.

The CyanogenMod team has already started to push CyanogenMod 13 code commits to their public Gerrit repository, ROMs are not quite ready for public consumption yet but the fact that work continues means that it won’t be long before CyanogenMod Marshmallow builds for end users are released.

As has always been the case it’s quite likely that the team will first start out by pushing nightly builds, which are sort of beta releases, before the software is deemed ready enough for a stable build. It’s a long process and it’s going to take some time.
