Last year’s Note flagships are finally getting the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update on AT&T, the carrier has rolled out said update for the Galaxy Note Edge and Galaxy Note 4. It may not be the latest publicly available version of Android but it’s the most recent one for these two handsets, most users across the country should have received an update notification by now.

Google has already released Android 6.0 Marshmallow but it’s largely limited to Nexus smartphones and tablets right now. OEMs and carriers are working to get Marshmallow updates ready but the priority will be given to the very latest devices, so it’s quite likely that slightly older handsets such as these two might have to end up waiting for a bit longer than the rest.

Until then Galaxy Note Edge and Galaxy Note 4 owners on AT&T can take advantage of the best that Lollipop has to offer, version 5.1.1 brings some system-wide improvements and enhancements as well as very critical security updates that patch the Stagefright vulnerability.

The update certainly isn’t light, it weighs in at about 700MB, so there’s quite a bit going on in there. Those who have already installed the update say that performance improvements can be felt which is always a good sign after a software update of this size.

Android 5.1.1 is being rolled out right now for Galaxy Note Edge and Galaxy Note 4 on AT&T, if the update notification still hasn’t arrived for you, it shouldn’t be much longer now.
