We also know that Google has a dedicated Cardboard app, which is why it doesn’t really come as a surprise to learn that they have started taking down apps that shares its Cardboard name. According to developers who have had their apps removed, Google claims that their listing has violated Google Play’s content policy.
The apps affected by this includes Cardboard VNC, Cardboard Theater, and Cardboard Catapult. Chances are the developers who named these apps weren’t trying to infringe upon copyright, but wanted to make an app that Cardboard users could find easily in terms of content, or just use the name Cardboard for something else entirely, but we guess Google wasn’t too pleased by it.
We can see why since having Cardboard would somehow suggest that the app has been approved by Google for the Cardboard, endorsed by Google, or even made by Google. One of the apps, Cardboard Theater, has since renamed itself to VR Theater.
