BioWare: Be Open-Minded To A Mass Effect Without Commander Shepard

mass-effect-andromedaOne of the reasons the original Mass Effect trilogy was so popular was because of characters like Commander Shepard, which we guess could be likened to Master Chief from Halo, Sarah Kerrigan from StarCraft, and Cloud to Final Fantasy VII, just to name a few. This is why we’re sure some gamers might be a bit apprehensive about the future of Mass Effect.

For those hearing about this for the first time, BioWare is creating a new Mass Effect game, which we learnt earlier this year would be called Mass Effect: Andromeda. The game will be the first in the series not to feature Commander Shepard, which the game’s senior development director Chris Wynn wants players to remain open-minded about.

According to Wynn who posted on Twitter, “Be open-minded to a Mass Effect with no Shepard. It can be good.” Like we said, Shepard was integral to the franchise in the original trilogy, but we suppose like all good things, his run had to come to an end eventually. This is because there will be a different story to the new Mass Effect, and reintroducing Shepard would not make sense.

That being said, the company hadn’t ruled out the possibility that there might be a reference or two made to Shepard, but it does seem like that is the most we can expect. Either way hopefully Andromeda will prove to be just as successful, but we guess we’ll just have to wait until 2016 to find out.
