TomTom Navigation Data Included By Uber In Its Driver App

uber-bmwWhile we have received word that Uber has decided to throw in TomTom’s navigation data into its driver app, let us make one thing clear right from the get go – Uber is not going to replace Google Maps anytime soon. This comes after Uber did not manage to win in its bid for Nokia’s Here mapping unit, hence it will need to look for an alternative to piece together its very own navigation, mapping and location services. TomTom of the Netherlands will offer data to Uber which will see action during navigation for Uber drivers, and these maps and traffic data “will contribute to the navigation experience”.

The passenger will not be able to see any difference at the end of the day, other than the fact that if the partnership works out, then the ride should be all the more efficient in terms of traffic dispersion and getting to one’s intended destination within the quickest time possible.

Charles Cautley, Managing Director Maps & Licensing at TomTom, shared, “We are excited to provide Uber with our best-in-class location data. TomTom is a truly independent map provider with the platform for the future. With this platform, TomTom is the trusted partner for innovative and future proof location technology for the global automotive and consumer technology industry.”
