Microsoft today announced that several new features are coming to its wearable activity tracker today, fans have been asking the company for some of these features, and it has finally listened to them. Microsoft Band gets all-new music controls today aside from activity reminders as well as an improved and enhanced Exercise Tile.

It’s now possible to control music directly from the Microsoft Band, the paired smartphone no longer needs to be whipped out for this purpose. The touchscreen display on Microsoft Band is going to display song title and enable users to pause, play, skip forward and back and also adjust the volume right from their wrist.

It doesn’t matter which app is being used on the smartphone to play the music, any music app on the phone paired with Microsoft Band can be controlled via the wearable device’s display, thus making it much easier for the wearer to control music playback on the fly.

The wearable device also provides activity reminders now so when users have been still for too long the Band will remind them to get up and get a move on. Nothing too groundbreaking, many fitness and activity trackers available in the market right now do exactly the same thing.

New and improved Exercise Tile enables users to track duration of the workout, heart rate and calorie burn for their favorite exercises. Sessions can later be examined in the Health app or Web Dashboard.
