Nexus-6P-Black-01If you own a Nexus device running Marshmallow and you’re having issue with video playback, fret not because you are not alone. It seems that back in October, there have been several complaints from users of the Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, and Nexus Player owners who have updated their device to the latest build of Android.

These complaints were about video playback in which color reproduction is way off and where blacks looked like greys, and colors in general were looking a bit washed out. The good news is that Google has finally acknowledged that this is an issue that needs to be looked at, but unfortunately a release for the patch has yet to take place.

The consolation is that at least Google is aware of it, and according to the company they have actually fixed this problem internally, so really it is just a matter of time before the update makes its way to the public.”Hey everyone, We understand the severity of this issue. It’s a widespread problem impacting all Nexus Players on 6.0. We’re working as fast as possible to resolve it. We also noticed similar problems on Nexus 6P and 5X, as reported in #14; however, those had a different root-cause. Those have been fixed internally, and will be included in a future MR.”

In the meantime we should point out that the issue here seems to be more to do with the stock player for Android, and that as far as third-party players are concerned, there is no issue there so Android users affected by this might want to turn to third-party solutions at least for now.
