LG G5’s Screen Will Be “Always On”

The LG G5 will be officially unveiled at MWC 2016. So far LG has teased little nuggets of information about the phone. For example just last week, it was hinted at the MWC teaser that maybe the LG G5 could sport an OLED display. Now thanks to a new teaser from LG, it seems that we can expect the LG G5 to have an “always on” screen.

So what does this mean? Obviously it doesn’t mean that the phone’s main display will be on 24/7 since obviously that will be quite a battery hog. Instead based on the teaser image, it looks as though the feature will be similar to Motorola’s active notifications, where basic information like time and notifications for new text messages, missed calls, and emails will be shown on the screen all the time.

This means that unlike current devices, you won’t have to wake the phone up just to see if you might have any missed calls or emails that you did not hear go off. It isn’t a particularly groundbreaking feature, unless LG has improved on the feature somehow that makes it stand out from what Motorola has done in the past.

Interestingly enough, the folks at Android Authority have suggested exactly that. They claim that the always on screen is basically a full-screen variant of the LG V10’s secondary display, which if true also means the potential to display color and other customization options. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but we should find out the details in the coming weeks.
