Tidal Leaps To No. 1 In App Charts, Thanks To Kanye West

tidal top appWhile the Tidal music streaming platform is backed by some pretty big names in the music industry, it is seems that the platform hasn’t gotten the same amount of attention compared to the likes of Pandora, Spotify, or Apple Music. However things have changed, and it seems that Tidal can thank Kanye West for that.

It has recently been noticed that the Tidal app in the iTunes App Store in the US has rocketed to the number one position. For those wondering why, it is because Kanye West has decided to release his album on the platform where it will stream exclusively for a week. He then tweeted to his followers, “Please for all music lovers. Please subscribe to tidal!!! I decided not to sell my album for another week. Please subscribe to tidal.”

Given Kanye West’s popularity, it isn’t surprising to see that the surge of downloads prompted by him has seen the app rise in popularity. Of course whether or not the users will stick around and keep paying for Tidal’s service is a different story, but for now we reckon that the attention is very much welcome.

The same thing happened last month when Rihanna also decided to release her latest album as a Tidal exclusive. In the meantime for those interested in checking out the app, head on over to the iTunes App Store for the download.
