Comcast Looking To Buy DreamWorks For $3 Billion

According to a new report, Comcast is interested in acquiring DreamWorks for a cool $3 billion. Comcast already owns Universal Pictures so adding DreamWorks to the mix could really boost its presence in the family entertainment sector and position it as a stronger rival against the likes of Disney, which has long been the leader in this sector.

Comcast has dabbled in animated movies via Universal Pictures before, making the hit Despicable Me and Minions movies. Nevertheless, it remains a small player in the family entertainment business so acquiring DreamWorks is a logical first step to improving its position in this business.

Disney may not have to worry about more competition on the content front if this deal goes through. The Wall Street Journal reports that Comcast could further build its presence in this business by inking licensing deals for consumer products and even set up theme parks based on its movies like Disney does.

DreamWorks has been courted by multiple buyers in the recent past but a deal hasn’t materialized yet. The Journal reports that DreamWorks CEO Jeffery Katzenberg is interested in finding a buyer so if Comcast makes the right offer with the right terms, perhaps it might snap up DreamWorks for a little more than $3 billion.
