intel-rdkIntel has just announced their RealSense robotic development kit which will allow you to construct the likes of robots, drones, and other devices which will be semi-autonomous. This new Robotic Development Kit and Aero Kit that is meant for drones has been shown off at the Intel Developer Forum which is happening in Shenzhen this week. Even better, the Robot kit will be made available for $250 per pre-order.

In this particular Robotic Development Kit, it will comprise of a RealSense Camera (R200) which is able to detect motion up to 4 meters away, in addition to boasting of the ability to capture infrared/depth imagery at VGA resolutions up to 60 frames per second as well as 1080p RGB imagery at 30 frames per second.

Not only that, this particular kit will also arrive with a very small computer-on-a-module that is known as the UP Board – that particular UP Board will be going from $89 or more, making it look a wee bit like a Raspberry Pi save for the fact that an Intel Atom Cherry Trail processor is the “engine” that keeps it running as opposed to an ARM-based chip.

In the Intel Robotic Development Kit, it will feature the following specifications – an Atom x5-Z8350 processor, Intel HD graphics, 4GB of RAM, 32GB of internal memory, a single USB 3.0 port, a quartet of USB 2.0 ports, Gigabit Ethernet, HDMI 1.4b support, all crammed into a 85.6mm x 56.6mm form factor.
