LG G5’s Hi-Fi Plus Module Will Not Be Arriving Stateside

lg g5 moduleOne of the unique selling points of the LG G5 are its Friends module. For those hearing about the phone for the first time, LG has made the LG G5 modular in which the battery compartment can be taken out and swapped around for other components, like a battery grip and an audio DAC made in partnership with Bang & Olufsen.

Unfortunately for those who are looking forward to the Hi-Fi Plus module, it seems that the accessory will not be made available in the US, at least for the foreseeable future. The module which was on LG’s US website has since been removed, and subsequent sightings of the packaging have revealed that the device will not be sold in the US.

In fact it’s not just the US that won’t get the accessory. Canadian and Puerto Rico markets will not be getting the module either, although we’re not sure why that is the case. Perhaps it could be due to supply issues, or maybe certification issues in trying to get the accessory available in said markets, or maybe there could be licensing issues with Bang & Olufsen.

LG has since issued a statement that reads, “At this time, we don’t have an availability date set for the Hi-Fi DAC, and so don’t have timing to share. As soon as we have an update, we will follow up.” So until LG says otherwise, we suggest you not get your hopes up just yet.
