TiVo Drops Monthly Free For Its Cord Cutter Focused DVR

Almost two years ago TiVo introduced a new DVR box called the Roamio OTA. The box was focused on cord cutters, folks that look for their TV elsewhere instead of subscribing to a traditional cable subscription. Roamio OTA supported major streaming services available at that time as well as HD content pulled over the air. It didn’t really become popular so TiVo is taking another shot at it by improving the box and removing the monthly fee it was previously charging.

TiVo announced the Roamio OTA 1TB today. The new box brings a refreshed user interface and more storage so users can record up to 150 hours of HD content. It also drops the monthly fee.

All of the latest TiVo features are included with the box, the features include OneSearch, QuickMode, SkipMode and OnePass so users don’t have to worry about leaving their favorite features behind.

The new Roamio OTA 1TB is a bit pricey at $399, even more so than the TiVo Bolt, but at least users don’t have to worry about paying a monthly free that’s slapped on every other TiVo box. Yes, the $14.99 fee does not apply to the Roamio OTA 1TB.

This new TiVo box is going to be available for purchase starting May 2nd from Amazon, Best Buy, and TiVo.com.
