If you’re looking for more security with your MacBook Pro, you could be getting your wish because according to the rumors, word on the street has it that the upcoming 2016 MacBook Pro refresh could come with a Touch ID fingerprint sensor that has been built into the laptop’s power button, which we guess would almost make it identical to Touch ID on the iPhone’s home button.

This is actually not that much of a stretch as back in May, there were already rumors that macOS could support Touch ID, or at least some kind of biometric security. However so far what we’ve seen is the platform’s ability to unlock a Mac computer as long as it detects that the user is nearby, which is accomplished through the Apple Watch.

While this would almost make Touch ID on the laptop redundant, we suppose it would make sense for users who do not own an Apple Watch or an iOS device, like maybe for those who use Macs at work. The idea of Touch ID embedded into a laptop isn’t new either as we’ve seen Apple explore the idea via patents in the past.

That being said, the 2016 MacBook Pro is shaping up to be a huge refresh, or so the rumors claim. Apart from the Touch ID, there is word that the laptop could replace the function keys on the keyboard with an OLED touch panel, which in theory sounds rather nifty, but we guess we’ll have to wait and see how it pans out.
