rock band 4For a while it seemed like the novelty of rhythm-based video games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band were dead. However last year we saw the return of Harmonix’s Rock Band 4 which unfortunately was not the hit that the company was looking for, and recently it seems that they have admitted that maybe price was a reason why the game did not sell as well as it could.

In a recent interview with Destructoid, Harmonix’s Daniel Sussman was quoted as saying that the Rock Band 4 bundles they sold were too expensive, thus prohibiting gamers from getting into the game. “From my standpoint, I look at this as a thing that we got wrong last year. I think our bundles were too expensive and that there were people who were priced out of the Rock Band 4 experience.”

However Sussman revealed that Harmonix had plans to address that, which is through its upcoming Rivals expansion in which they will be reducing the price of the bundle from $250 to $200. Alternatively for those who don’t require all the instruments, the guitar bundle with the game will see its price reduced from $130 to $90, thus making it more accessible to gamers on tighter budgets.

Sussman states that the price reduction was possible thanks to them switching peripheral companies. Prior to this they were working with Mad Catz, but the switch to PDP saved them money which in turn let them reduce the price of the bundles, which we can only imagine is good news for gamers.
