DJI today announced the launch of a new Osmo gimbal. It’s the handheld version of the stabilizing gimbal and camera that you find on the company’s drones. The DJI Osmo+ features an all-new camera that has a zoom lens which allows for up to 7x digital zoom and 3.5x optical zoom. It’s available for purchase starting today.

DJI Osmo+ features the Zenmuse X3 Zoom camera. It’s an improved version of the Zenmuse Z3 aerial camera that it announced last month.

This 12.4 megapixel camera features a 1/2.3 inch Sony Exmor R CMOS sensor and is capable of shooting video in 4K. The biggest difference here is the presence of optical zoom. The variable aperture of this camera remains at f2.8 at widest angles but comes down to f5.2 when zoomed in.

It’s interesting to note that the highest frame rate the Osmo+ can achieve is 100 frames per second while its predecessor could hit 120 frames per second. The company also says that the Osmo+ has a new “motion timelapse” feature which can help create some amazing motion timelapses.

DJI has also added a bigger battery to the gimbal. The Osmo+ has a 1,225mAh battery which is a good improvement over the 980mAh battery found in the original Osmo gimbal.

The DJI Osmo+ is available now with a price tag of $649.
