Google’s Daydream VR Platform Could Be Launching In Weeks

google daydreamAnnounced during Google I/O 2016 several months ago, Daydream is Google’s virtual reality (VR) platform. Similar with Google’s intentions behind Android Pay and Android Wear, Daydream is Google’s attempts at trying to standardize/unify virtual reality on mobile, especially since we are seeing a lot of companies trying to create their own solutions, like Samsung, LG, and Xiaomi, just to name a few.

That being said, it seems that Daydream’s official launch could be taking place in the next few weeks, according to a report from Bloomberg in which they claim that the company has been busy trying to set up various deals with other companies to help create and share VR-related content.

The report claims that we can expect to see content from the likes of YouTube (which we guess is a given), Hulu, HBO, NBA, and MLB, meaning that apart from just playing video games, users will also be able to enjoy sports and movies in virtual reality. Google is also apparently approaching this with caution and aren’t looking to spend too much money too fast.

The company is said to be spreading its resources across various initiatives to see what works. However we should note that not all handsets will be able to support Daydream out of the box. Handsets that do want to support the platform will have to meet certain requirements in terms of hardware, and last we checked, Huawei has plans to create such a device. In any case we’ll keep an eye out for its release, so check back with us in the coming weeks for the details.
