AT&T has already confirmed that it’s going to launch a standalone DirecTV streaming service that’s going to be similar to the likes of Sling TV and PlayStation Vue. It’s going to be a standalone option so subscribers won’t need a conventional cable contract and won’t need to pay the fees associated with it. This is going to be a month-to-month affair with subscribers having the flexibility to cancel whenever they want. It has now said that the DirecTV streaming service is going to be launched before the end of this year.

Speaking at an investor conference, AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson confirmed that the DirecTV streaming service is going to be launched before the end of 2016 with “very, very aggressive price points.”

The service is called DirecTV Now and it’s going to feature more than 100 premium channels once all of the deals have been signed with content providers. The CEO has confirmed that deals with Disney and HBO have already been inked.

Some minor details about the service were also revealed by AT&T’s CEO. The app will enable subscribers to access two streams per household but did mention that those who want more streams on a single account may be able to pay for the privilege.

Stephenson said that AT&T is looking at more than 20 million households in the United States that don’t have a conventional cable package. Whether or not the price will be aggressive enough to entice them remains to be seen as the company is keeping mum on the prices for now.
