Samsung Working With CPSC To Make The Galaxy Note 7 Recall Official

A little over a week ago, Samsung officially announced that they would be recalling the Galaxy Note 7 over reports of the phone’s battery exploding. If you already knew about that, so what’s the deal with this article’s title? Does that mean that the Samsung recall from last week wasn’t official?

If you recall, a few days ago the FAA stated that they were considering banning the Galaxy Note 7 from flights, but apparently since Samsung did not go through the official channels (basically Samsung would have to notify US Consumer Product Safety Commission) when recalling their phones, in the eyes of the FAA the recall is technically not yet official per se, but now the CPSC has confirmed (via 9to5Google) that they are working with Samsung to formally announce the recall.

According to the CPSC’s statement, “CPSC and Samsung are working cooperatively to formally announce an official recall of the devices, as soon as possible. CPSC is working quickly to determine whether a replacement Galaxy Note7 is an acceptable remedy for Samsung or their phone carriers to provide to consumers.”

Samsung has also released an updated statement with regards to the FAA advising customers not to use or charge their Galaxy Note 7 handsets on board planes. “We are aware of the Federal Aviation Administration’s statement about the Galaxy Note7. Consumer safety and peace of mind are our top priority. We plan to expedite new shipments of Galaxy Note7 starting from this week in order to alleviate any safety concerns and reduce any inconvenience for our customers.”
