Xbox Controller Support Coming To Samsung’s Gear VR

xbox-wireless-controller-samsung-gear-vrWhen it comes to controllers used in conjunction with virtual reality headsets, we’ve seen companies like Oculus and HTC create their own style of controllers. However what about headsets like the Samsung Gear VR? The good news is that if you are an Xbox gamer, you won’t have to worry about purchasing a separate device.

In an announcement on the Xbox website, Microsoft revealed that the Samsung Gear VR headset will soon be able to support the Xbox controller. This means that if you already own the controller you won’t have to buy a new one. It also means that if you’re already familiar with its layout and its look and feel, it reduces the learning curve and you can just get right into the thick of things.

According to Microsoft, the first game that will support the Xbox controller on the Gear VR would be Minecraft: Gear VR Edition, but support for other games will be coming at a later date. “Beyond Minecraft: Gear VR Edition, we’re working hard to make the Xbox Wireless Controller compatible with all controller-supported Gear VR games and future games too.  Keep an eye out for more news on the release timing in the coming months. Once available, all you need to do is update your controller, and you’ll be ready to play.”
