Google Releases Daydream Keyboard In The Play Store

daydream-keyboardWhile it is easy for us to communicate with our computers and smartphones using input devices, being in virtual reality presents a whole different set of challenges. After all you are immersing yourself in another reality meaning that what you see in front of you will be completely different from real life.

So how does one communicate in VR? Google has thought of a way, and that is by introducing a virtual keyboard. The company has recently released the Daydream Keyboard app for Android where as you can see in the screenshot above, basically places a virtual keyboard in your virtual environment for users to type with.

From what we can tell, it looks a lot like the regular Android keyboard, save for the fact that there is a separate floating number pad. Users will need to hover over the letter they want with a virtual cursor to type, which we have to wonder if it might be a bit too tedious to use for extended periods of time.

In any case since this keyboard is designed for Android phones with Daydream capabilities, basically installing it right now is pretty much useless. Not to mention the Daydream viewer isn’t ready for shipping yet either, but when the phones and viewer are released, you can check out the app via the Google Play Store.
