Nintendo Apologizes For Pokemon GO Plus Shortages

pokemon go plusSo while Nintendo might not have anything to do with the development and maintenance of Pokemon GO, they are responsible for a part of the game, and that is with the Pokemon GO Plus accessory that was released in September. However it seems that the device proved to be so popular that the company is having a hard time keeping up with demand.

So much so that the company has since issued an apology over the shortages of it. Speaking during Nintendo’s financial briefing, the company’s president Tatsumi Kimishima said, “Demand far exceeded our expectations and production has not caught up, leading to product shortages. We apologize to the consumers and distributors affected by this. We are planning to expand production as needed, and will continue to produce and ship additional units.”

For those unfamiliar with the device, the Pokemon GO Plus is basically an accessory designed to work together with the game. It can act as a tracker and can count the number of kilometers that you have walked, which will go towards hatching eggs. Users will also be able to use the device to collect items from Pokestops and catch Pokemon without having to pull their phone out all the time.

It’s a handy accessory if you don’t want to drain your smartphone battery. In the meantime it seems that Pokemon GO has proven to be a financial boon to Nintendo, even though they didn’t necessarily have a role in the creation of the game. Last we heard, the company managed to net a cool $100 million from licensing fees.
