Back in August, Twitch revealed that they had acquired Curse, a gaming platform which provided users with access to game downloads, mods, and in more recent times, a chat application in which gamers could communicate with each other, kind of like the Skype for gaming.

According to a report from Engadget, there is good news for those who use the Curse chat client because it seems that in an update rolling out to the desktop version of the app, Twitch has added video calling functionality to it. This means that in addition to voice communication, gamers will now be able to video chat with each other as well.

Gamers will be able to stream a website feed to others in real-time, kind of like what Twitch is already doing, and also allows private screen sharing in which players can highlight plays and share their strategies with their team mates. This update will also give Twitch an edge over current apps such as Discord and Teamspeak, neither of which offers up video call functionality at the moment.

Will this tempt users to make the jump? We guess we’ll have to wait and see, but in the meantime any of you guys planning to make the switch following the announcement of this new feature?
