LG Display Announces 5.7-inch QHD+ LCD With 18:9 Aspect Ratio

lg-g5_hands-on_17What do we know about the LG G6? For starters LG has confirmed that they have done away with the modular system, and now it seems that LG has confirmed what kind of display we will be able to expect as well. In an announcement by LG Display, the company has unveiled the world’s first QHD+ LCD display with an 18:9 aspect ratio designed for smartphones.

According to the company’s press release, they have confirmed that this new LCD will be finding its way into the LG’s next flagship smartphone for 2017, which we can only assume is the upcoming LG G6. They have also seemingly confirmed the display size at 5.7-inch with a QHD+ resolution of 1440×2880 which gives it a 564 PPI in terms of pixel density.

LG believes that the 18:9 aspect ratio is the next step in the evolution of smartphone displays, which has evolved from 4:3 to 3:2, 5:3 to 16:9. LG claims that an 18:9 ratio makes it ideal for watching videos on mobile, multi-tasking, as well as using dual-screen functions, which we wonder if they might be alluding to some of the features of the LG G6.

In addition to the new aspect ratio, the new display is also said to feature improved touch response and it is thinner. It also has improved outdoor visibility and will be energy efficient as it will see a 30% reduction in power consumption.
