Windows 10 Game Mode Confirmed

A couple of weeks back we reported on a leaked Windows 10 beta build which included a new “Game Mode” feature. Microsoft sought to improve gaming performance on Windows 10 PCs by delivering software optimizations with this feature. The company has now confirmed the Windows 10 Game Mode that’s going to be included in the upcoming major Creators Update due in a few weeks. It has confirmed additional gaming-focused features as well.

In a post on the official Xbox blog, Mike Ybarra, Head of Platform Engineering for Xbox, reiterated that the company is improving the ways users can stay in touch with their friends on Xbox Live by making it easier for them to connect with people they care about on other social networks. It’s also adding updates to the Activity Feed so that users can connect and share more with their gaming friends.

He confirmed that Microsoft will introduce a new feature called Game mode with the Creators Update, adding that Windows Insiders will start seeing some visual elements for Game Mode this week and that future beta builds will include the fully operational feature.

Microsoft’s vision for Game Mode is to optimize Windows 10 PC for increased performance in gaming. It’s not sharing much about the feature right now but promises to share more about how it works in the near future.

It has also been confirmed that every Xbox One will soon get an update to the Guide which will make it easier to complete common tasks. The newly enhanced Guide will be accessible through one press of the Xbox button.
