Call of Duty fans will no doubt be interested to find out what Activision has in store for them this year. The franchise gets a new iteration almost every year and Activision has now revealed the first bit of information about the new title. The company said during its recent quarterly earnings call that the 2017 Call of Duty game is going to go “back to its roots.”

It was also confirmed during the earnings call that Sledgehammer Games is back to develop the 2017 Call of Duty game. The developer itself has confirmed on Twitter that it’s going to be heading the development work on this year’s CoD title and it promises to provide more information about the title in the future.

Without revealing any more information about the title, Activision said during the earnings call that “In 2017, Activision will take Call of Duty back to its roots, and traditional combat will once again take center stage. This is what our dedicated community of Call of Duty players and Sledgehammer Games, developing this year’s title, are the most excited about.”

As for what this means for the next iteration in the franchise, well we’ll have to wait to find out because Activision and Sledgehammer are tight lipped at this point in time. We’ll likely get to hear more about the 2017 Call of Duty game at the E3 2017 gaming convention later this year in the summer.
