Motorola And Amazon Bringing Alexa To Smartphones

Alexa was everywhere earlier this year at the Consumer Electronics Show 2017. We saw Amazon’s virtual digital assistant being integrated into everything from smart connected devices to home appliances. The company has now teamed up with Motorola to bring Alexa to smartphones. Motorola today confirmed that later this year customers will be able to purchase a Moto Mod with Amazon Alexa for the Moto Z. This will bring the power of Alexa to their handset.

Amazon’s Jon Kirk made a brief appearance on stage during Motorola’s press conference and confirmed the company’s collaboration with Motorola. He showed a short concept video which featured a Moto smartphone connected to a speaker mod made by Harman Kardon that also had Amazon Alexa baked in.

This means that these mods will enable users to do almost everything that they can do with an Alexa-powered device like the Amazon Echo. Features include but are not limited to checking the news, requesting a ride from services like Uber, controlling smart home devices like thermostats and lights, creating reminders and shopping lists, etc.

Motorola has also confirmed today that later this year it will also start integrating Alexa into its smartphones which will enable users to access the digital personal assistant without having to even unlock their phone first.
