Galaxy S8 Reportedly Costs Over $300 To Make

With the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S8, Samsung has opted to price the phone high than its predecessors. Why is this? Sure, some might call it a bit greedy, but as it turns out Samsung might have a pretty good reason, and that is the fact that it costs more to make than the previous Galaxy S handsets.

According to an estimate released by IHS Markit (via CNET), it seems that the Galaxy S8 costs Samsung $307.50 to build. This is compared to the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge which reportedly costs $255.10 and $271.20 to make. Of course Samsung has not confirmed whether or not these figures are accurate, so take it with a grain of salt for now.

Also according to the website, the Galaxy S8 appears to be the most expensive handset to build to date. The next most expensive is reportedly the Google Pixel XL which costs $285.80. For those wondering about the competition, Apple’s iPhone 7 is said to cost around $224.80 which is considerably lower than the Galaxy S8.

However we have heard rumors that this year’s iPhone 8 could cost nearly $1,000, although given that we have been hearing that it will be packing a ton of new specs and features, it is understandable.
