Facebook Is Making Safety Check A Permanent Feature

You might have noticed that Facebook has a Safety Check feature which basically allows users to mark themselves as “safe” when they are in an area in which an incident has occurred, whether it be a natural disaster, a terrorist attack, and so on. The general idea is that it will help keep their families informed on their safety and provide some sense of relief and assurance.

Now it seems like Facebook has decided to make Safety Check a permanent feature where they’ve created a dedicated hub for the feature, as opposed to it popping up only in times of emergencies. This means that even if you don’t know anyone in that particular area, the Safety Check hub will let you learn more about what’s going on, and possibly lend a helping hand if necessary.

According to Facebook, “Safety Check helps our community let loved ones know they are safe during a crisis, find and give help, as well as learn more about a crisis. There’s now a single place to go to see where Safety Check has recently been activated, get the information you need and potentially be able to help affected areas.”

The feature will be rolled out starting today and is expected to find its way to all Facebook users in the coming weeks.
