When it comes to compact cameras, Canon’s PowerShot G-series is one that is favored by many photographers, even professionals who might just want a compact camera to take with them on a holiday as opposed to their bulky DSLRs, so you can imagine that many are curious to see what the future of the series holds.

Now just last month, there were rumors that the Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark III could be announced “soon”, and a new report from Canon Rumors has suggested that soon could be early as next month. They have heard that the announcement could be taking place mid-October and we are looking at either an announcement on a Tuesday or Friday as per Canon’s previous announcements.

Of course this is a rumor so do take it with a grain of salt, but if a new compact camera is something you’ve been eyein then this could be worth waiting for. As for the specs of the PowerShot G1 X Mark III, word has it that the camera will feature a 24MP APS-C sensor, dual pixel AF, a DIGIC 7 image processor, and will come with a 24-120mm lens, which will make this a camera ideal for people who love zoom photography.

In any case we should find out soon enough so do check back with us in the coming weeks for the details, if there are any to be had.
