Now Apple has made various improvements and changes to its Photos app on iOS and macOS over the past few years, but it is clear that they’re far from done because according to a report from TechCrunch (via 9to5Mac), the Cupertino company has reportedly acquired a French computer vision startup by the name of Regained, whose technology specializes in being able to recognize content within photos.
When asked for confirmation, Apple issued a boilerplate response which reads, “Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans.” It is unclear how recent the acquisition might have been, but it has been suggested that some of Regained’s technology could have made it into the iPhone X’s Face ID technology.
In addition, TechCrunch claims that Regained’s technology goes beyond just identifying objects in photos, but can also determine which photo might be the best, such as when taking burst photos.
