Huawei Watch 2 Pro Launched With eSIM Support

The Huawei Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro were announced by the company in China over the weekend but the new handsets aren’t the only hardware that it has unveiled. Something that flew under the radar completely for the past couple of weeks has also been unveiled. Huawei has launched the new Watch 2 Pro in China. This smartwatch comes with eSIM support. This was a surprising announcement, given that Huawei didn’t talk about a new smartwatch at the international launch event in Munich.

There isn’t a lot of information available about the specifications of this smartwatch right now, however, reports reveal that it features a heart rate monitor, an onboard GPS, and NFC support for mobile payments with Huawei Pay. The defining feature is that this smartwatch has 4G/3G/2G support for its eSIM.

It’s also unclear what operating system this smartwatch is running, given that Google doesn’t officially have a presence in the country. The user interface is similar to that of Android Wear but it may not have any Google services.

It’s likely that Huawei will keep this smartwatch a China-exclusive. The company itself hasn’t said anything that would suggest that a global launch is on the cards for the Watch 2 Pro with eSIM.

Huawei has already started selling the Watch 2 Pro in China for nearly $400. While this smartwatch may not make it out of China, it does suggest that future smartwatches from Huawei that see a global release may very well feature eSIM support.
