2018’s iPhone Expected To Use The Same Camera Lens Design

Based on initial reviews of Apple’s new iPhones, it seems that the changes and improvements Apple has made to the cameras has been very welcomed, which is why it doesn’t really seem surprising that Apple will be wanting to stick to a similar formula for next year’s models, at least as far as the camera lens design is concerned.

According to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, his latest research note to investors has indicated that he believes 2018’s iPhone could use the same camera lens design as 2017’s models. This means that we can expect the same 6P lens design, which basically means a six-lens plastic lens array, versus a 7P design or a 2G3P (two-glass, three-plastic) hybrid design that is currently being speculated.

Kuo writes, “With its rear camera specs, iPhone X has managed to strike a phenomenal balance between picture quality and form factor design, in our opinion, given how far we’ve come today technologically. Switching from a 6P lens to a 7P lens or a 2G3P hybrid lens, with camera module design largely similar to iPhone X’s, would make for only limited improvements in aperture performance, we believe.”

There is also an added advantage of sticking to the same formula, which is that it will prevent unnecessary complications during the manufacturing process, something that Kuo has suggested that Apple is hoping to avoid next year.
