Lord Of The Rings TV Show Reportedly Being Considered By Amazon

Amazon is not shying away from investing big money in its original content efforts and what it’s planning to achieve could potentially bring a potential Game of Thrones competitor. According to reports, Amazon Studios has been looking to achieve the same kind of success that HBO has with Game of Thrones by launching its very own super hit show. It apparently thinks that The Lord of the Rings is the solution.

Variety reports that Amazon Studios wants to adapt The Lord of the Rings into a TV series. The company is said to be in talks with J.R.R. Tolkien’s and Warner Bros. Television about developing aa LOTR TV series.

The report does mention that the talks are in “very early stages” so nothing is set in stone at this point in time. However, it’s something that the company is prioritizing, given that Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos is said to be involved in the negotiations himself.

Recent reports suggest that the author’s estate is willing to sell the television rights to the franchise for as much as $300 million. It’s said to have approached Netflix and HBO as well. HBO is believed to have passed on the project already.

The Lord of the Rings has a significant fan following so it could prove to be a hit for Amazon Studios if it’s able to reach a deal. However, given the passionate fan base, it’s going to be a big responsibility for Amazon Studios to ensure that the adaptation is in line with fans’ expectations.
