Huawei Phones Will Now Offer Android Messages App By Default

Google has announced that its Android Messaging app has been selected by Huawei as its default messaging app. This means that Huawei’s upcoming smartphones will offer the Android Messages app as the default messaging app in all markets. It’s a win for Google as the company continues to expand Rich Communication Services to the masses and doing it with one of the fastest growing smartphone vendors in the world certainly helps.

The Android Messages app powered by RCS is going to offer a richer native messaging and communications experience on Huawei smartphones. The default texting app will offer features like rich media sharing, texting over Wi-Fi, group chats, and typing indicators.

These features are normally found on messaging apps like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger, not on default texting apps and this is all courtesy of RCS. Huawei users will also be able to make video calls directly from Android Messages through carrier ViLTE and Google Duo.

Google is also collaborating with Huawei to offer the Jibe RCS cloud and hub solution to current and likely carrier partners. This is a part of an integrated solution with Huawei’s existing infrastructure. This will allow for a faster process for RCS services to enable more subscribers to get access to RCS messaging.

The company confirms that Huawei is going to start integrating Android Messages across its portfolio in the coming months.
