2019 Won’t Get A New Assassin’s Creed Title

Ubisoft departed from the fixed yearly release cycle for Assassin’s Creed in February 2016. It took a year off between Syndicate and Origins. Many fans were in favor of this decision as they felt that the yearly cycle was hurting sales due to poor reception. Ubisoft recently said that it won’t return to the yearly cycle and with Assassin’s Creed Odyssey due to release in a couple of months, Ubisoft has now confirmed that it won’t release a new Assassin’s Creed game in 2019.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed at Gamescom that instead of releasing a new game next year, they’re going to support Odyssey instead. Additional content will be released for the title so that players can remain engaged even a year after the title is released.

Some felt that perhaps the series would return to its annual cycle because Origins was released in 2017 and Odyssey will be released in October this year. Guillemot explained that this was possible because both titles were developed at the same time.

Guillemot also ruled out the possibility of a spin-off title next in lieu of a full-fledged release. He said that there will be “lots of content” for Odyssey instead that will be released on a regular basis. Players can expect to receive new content “for a couple of years,” he said.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is going to be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on October 5th, 2018.
